Plot: Epic account of the thief Barabbas, who was spared crucifixion when the Jews chose Christ in his place. Struggling with his spirituality, Barabbas goes through many ordeals leading him to the gladiator arena, where he tries to win his freedom and confront his inner demons. A movie in the same genre of "sparatus" but much more intense. This is the story of the man that was supposed to be crucified, but the people cried out that the Romans should execute Jesus instead. Spared from death, Barabbas (Anthony Quinn) lives a life of hell and persecution and constantly wonders why he should be spared from death instead of Jesus.
