Versioni alternative: - Scenes filmed but cut (some of which were shown as dailies at OSU in 1998) and also shown at Cannes 1999: - A fight erupts between the gang members and Jay & Silent Bob after presenting Serendipidy (Salma Hayek) with more money. Serendipidy then gives them the idea to sing the theme to Fat Albert to calm the gang down, which it does. - As they leave the strip club, Rufus (Chris Rock) and Serendipity then mention how much Bethany resembles Christ. - Loki has a speech to Silent Bob about how Star Wars was actually an attack on Catholicsm on the train because the Emporer is a practitioner of the Force, hence he is the ruler of a theocracy. - During the final battle, when Bethany goes to John Doe Jersey, one of the Triplets actually impales her, and Silent Bob faces off against NoMan in the hospital hall. God turns NoMan into a wall of flowers (pictures can be found on www.viewaskew.com). - Also God (Alanis Morrissette) had a line that got cut, when asked "Why are we here ?", she replied "Just one word : Plastics". - In a special about Kevin Smith, a deleted scene was shown. Jason Lee, (Azriel) in the bar with everyone tied up talks about how hell was originally just the absence of God, saying if you ever met him, that was punishment enough. It wasn't until the first humans appeared begging for punishment than it turned into hell as humans perceived it. Then he says the line that is still in the movie: " I would rather not exist at all than go back to that." - The version of Dogma shown at Cannes in 1999 was shown at the Vulgarthon 2000 in Red Bank, N.J. on 10/30/2000.

Plot: The great grand niece of Jesus Christ is enlisted to prevent two angels from reentering Heaven and thus undoing the fabric of the universe. Along the way, she is aided by two prophets, Jay and Silent Bob. With the help of Rufus, the 13th Apostle, they must stop those who stand in their way and prevent the angels from entering Heaven. A female decendant of Christ and two unlikely prophets are called upon by Rufus, an unknown 13th apostle, to stop two angels, that were cast out of heaven, from unknowingly erasing all of God's work by restoring their souls by entering a new church. Restoring ones soul by entering a new church is a part of the Catholic Dogma, and by restoring their souls the angels could reenter heaven thus revealing there is a loophole to return to heaven. This would prove God was not perfect and upon proving this all of God's work would immediately be erased. Two mischievous angels who were laid off by God and are given the boot. Finding themselves banned to Wisconscin, they set out for New Jersey where they find a loophole that will allow them to re-enter heaven. The only problem is it will destroy humanity. An abortion clinic worker who is a descendant of Christ, a wisecracking 13th apostle, a stripper/muse, and mischievous mallrats Jay and Silent Bob band together to stop them.
