Plot: Charlie is a Rhode Island state trooper with a split personality. He is otherwise mild-mannered and non confrontational until somebody or something pushes him a little too far. That's when his maniacal alter-ego, Hank, takes over. Charlie is assigned on a routine mission to return alleged fugitive Irene back to upstate New York, but they wind up on the run from corrupt police officers. And their escape would be a lot simpler on everybody involved if Hank didn't keep stepping in at the most inopportune times... Jim Carrey plays a Rhode Island State Trooper named Charlie who has a multiple personality disorder. One personality is crazy and aggressive, while the other is more friendly and laid back. Both of these personalities fall in love with the same woman named Irene after Charlie loses his medication. Charlie è un tranquillo (fin troppo) poliziotto di Rhode Island. E' stato abbandonato anni prima dall'amata moglie, che gli ha lasciato tre gemelli (oggi diciottenni) alquanto...ingombranti. Non è riuscito ad incassare l'abbandono e, un bel giorno, la sua schizofrenia viene a galla ed il malcapitato si sdoppia in Frank, aggressivo e maleducato. Trovatosi, suo malgrado, a dover scortare la bella irene, si trova invischiato in un affare di corruzione molto pericoloso, con morti ammazzati ed inseguimenti di poliziotti corrotti. Nel frattempo i due( ?) uomini....si innamorano entrambi della ragazza. Alla fine tutto si risoverà per il meglio, con somma gioia di....Charlie.
