Plot: A young neurosurgeon (Gene Wilder) inherits the castle of his grandfather, the famous Dr. Victor von Frankenstein. In the castle he finds a funny hunchback called Igor, a pretty lab assistant named Inga and the old housekeeper, frau Blucher -iiiiihhh!-. Young Frankenstein believes that the work of his grandfather is only crap, but when he discovers the book where the mad doctor described his reanimation experiment, he suddenly changes his mind... The grandson of Victor Frankenstein is a teaching surgeon who has spent his life living down the legend of his grandfather, even changing the pronunciation of his name. When the diary of his grandfather is brought to him, he takes a leave of absence to examine the family castle. Then things get a little silly. Due to a switch, he implants an abnormal brain in his creation which causes problems, but things really get out of hand when the young Frankenstein's bride to be shows up at the castle. The whole film is shot in Black and white to simulate the old monster movie feeling. The Grandson of Doctor Frankenstein has tried to live in quiet obscurity to avoid being tarred with the Mad Doctor brush. When he discovers his grandfather's journal, he decides he could succeed where his grandfather had failed. Traditional problems with the brain, townspeople, the chief of police and explaining it all to his fiance. Comicità debordante e citazioni cinematografiche da antologia in questa rivisitazione parodistica del mito di Frankenstein e del suo "Mostro", a tutt'oggi il miglior film di Mel Brooks. Il dottor Frankenstein, docente di medicina, è un appassionato di ricerche scientifiche. Un giorno riceve in eredità un castello nella vecchia Europa da un suo misconosciuto avo. Con l'aiuto del fido Igor, aiutante fidato ma un pò sbadato, decide di continuare le ricerche scientifiche dello zio, il famoso barone Frankenstein. Trafugato un cadavere gigantesco di un impiccato ed un cervello 'abnormal', il giovane scienziato effettua l'esperimento di trapiantare il cervello sul cadavere per riprodurre un essere umano. Ma quel 'qualcosa' di anormale nel cervello trafugato porta scompiglio nell'esperimento. Di conseguenza la nuova creatura semina, non appena si muove, terrore e preoccupazione. Alla fine, dopo molte vicissitudini al limite del grottesco (la 'creatura' perfetto ballerino di tip-tap, focoso amatore e così via) lo scienziato decide di fare un altro esperimento: scambiare, con impulsi elettrici, il proprio cervello con quello della creatura. L'esperimento riesce in parte : il "Mostro" diventerà l'annoiato marito della ex fidanzata dello scienziato, mentre questi diventerà il focoso amante di Inga, la sua assistente.
